When Does SRD Sassa End?

If you are wondering when does SRD Sassa end, then you have come to the right place. In this article, we’ll answer that question and more. The national state of disaster ends on 5 April 2022. After this date, most lockdown rules will cease and only three will be in effect for thirty days. Once that period has expired, you’ll no longer qualify for the SRD Sassa grant, but you will no longer receive the state-of-disaster act.

The SRD grant was introduced in 2010 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns. It has now expanded to benefit over 17 million South Africans who are unable to find work. This program illustrates the glaring inequality in our society. In addition, the government encourages beneficiaries to get in touch with them if they’re unsure about their grant status.

After COVID-19 hit, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) began paying out COVID-19 SRD grant recipients. The Special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant is set at R350 per month and is designed to help the unemployed. COVID-19 left most unemployed South Africans without jobs. After the government imposed harsh measures in March of this year, President Cyril Ramaphosa reinstated the SRD program. It will remain in effect until March 2022.

From 1 April 2022 through 31 March 2023, the R350 SRD grant is scheduled to be paid. The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has announced that new additional qualifying conditions have been established as of the opening of applications for the SRD award on April 23, 2022.

As a result, from 18.4 million in 2021/2022 to 19.2 million in 2024/25, there will be an increase in the number of grant recipients. The 10.5 million recipients of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R350 grant are not included in the aforementioned numbers.

Payments for the new cycle of the R350 special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grants (SRD) award, beginning in April 2022, will start to be made as of mid-June 2022, according to the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).
